VEGAN FRENCH TOAST

2 WAYS | SWEET OR SAVORY



Whether you're a fan of breakfasts or not, no one can resist French Toast. Indeed, if you love French Toast, you will definitely love this 5 ingredients plant-based version. Each morning, I always try to take the time to have breakfast so I can plan my day ahead while having a little moment just for myself. The calm before the storm.


This recipe is super simple and versatile. Indeed, you can make either the sweet version that is perfect for Sunday’s brunch or the savory one with tofu that is ideal as a high protein breakfast on-the-go. Both options are super yummy, that's for sure.

Preparation | 5 minutes

Cooking | 15 minutes

For 4 people (about 2 slices of bread per person)


INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened almond milk

  • ¾ cup (180 ml) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp. (5 ml) baking powder

  • ½ tsp. (2.5 ml) baking soda

  • Your favorite bred

For the sweet version

  • 1 tsp. (5 mL) sugar or refined sugar

For the salty version

  • ¼ tsp. (1.5 ml) salt

  • Pepper to taste

STEPS

  1. Mix all dry ingredients and sift.

  2. Add the almond milk and whisk until the mixture is homogeneous.

  3. Preheat a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat.

  4. Add olive oil.

  5. Dip the bread into the preparation making sure it is completely coated.

  6. Cook for a few minutes on both sides.

  7. Repeat the last two steps for each slice of bread.

  8. Garnish to taste and serve!

For the sweet version

  • Serve with berries, VegNature original plant-based goat cheese and some maple syrup.

For the savory version

  • Serve with grilled tofu slices, veggie bacon, tomatoes, spinach and VegNature original plant-based goat cheese.
